Books are for Everyone!

That’s our belief, at least. Our newest initiative, Page it Forward, seeks to increase access to books for children aged 0-5, in addition to our ongoing book donation efforts for all ages. This initiative focuses on increasing access to books by providing children the opportunity to choose books that interest them.

The Importance of Early Reading Efforts

A child’s access to books is essential for their success. Many DC families face steep disparities in early literacy support. Over 80% of DC public school students qualify for free or reduced lunch, and many households report little or no access to books at home.

Research shows that book access and caregiver confidence are two of the strongest predictors of future reading success. Yet, low-income families often face limitations in joining traditional literacy initiatives.

With Page It Forward, we respond to this need—not as charity, but as community care. We put books in children's hands before they fall behind, and we offer caregivers the tools to make reading a joyful, daily part of family life.

Expanded Book Access

Children with consistent access to age-appropriate books are more likely to build early literacy skills and start kindergarten ready to learn.

Empowered Caregivers

When caregivers have the knowledge and confidence to support reading at home, children experience more one-on-one reading time and deeper language development.

Increased Reading Time

Together, these supports lead to increased time spent reading aloud at home—laying the foundation for long-term academic achievement and love of learning.
