The Potter’s House Bookstore.

The Potter's House Bookstore offers a unique collection of titles that feeds both the inward and outward journey for those hungry on their spiritual journey We have a section of our own books, chronicling the stories of the Church of the Saviour since 1950 (Elizabeth O’Connor) and more recently, books and pamphlets that explore what it means to Journey Forward spiritually in an active yet reflective manner. (Tell the Word Publications) Through are Book Reviews you can see a sample of our basic inventory.

We highlight many titles through our online bookletter which appears in the "Books" department of the website. The bookletter introduces new titles in our stock and highlights books which we think are of special significance for our customers. But you will find book descriptions and reviews accompanying titles in all sections of the website.

The Potter’s House Bookstore has, for many years, been the book ministry of the ecumenical Church of the Saviour. This mission-oriented church is known for its attention to God's call and the transformative disciplines which help all to live out their commitment with integrity and joy. The Bookstore and accompanying coffeehouse are operated by one of the Church of the Saviour's small mission groups, the Potter’s House Church. The Potter’s House has been the birthing place for many inner-city missions, and continues to be a gathering place for the various Church of the Saviour ministries and for many other groups and individuals from the diverse Washington, DC community.

We'll Bring Our Books to You for Special Events

If you live in the Washington, DC, metro area and would like to have a selection of Potter’s House books at an event sponsored by your church or community organization, we would be happy to bring our books to you. Examples of events where we have sold books include: a workshop on healing and wholeness, a nonviolence workshop, social justice conferences, an interfaith anniversary event, meetings of the Thomas Merton Society, a scripture workshop and a seminar on writing your spiritual autobiography.

If you would like us to come to such events, or other events of your group's own design, please call Tom Taylor at the Bookstore (202-232-5483). We will bring a selection of our books appropriate to your event.

Fair Trade Products, Pottery, Hand-Crafted Gift Items, Greeting Cards Also Available

The Potter’s House Gift Shop offers a fine selection of fair trade and hand-crafted gift items from around the world. We purchase these items from Ten Thousand Villages and other organizations that support fair trade products and low-income craftspeople in Third World countries. Our gift items include pottery, handbags, baskets, candles, crosses, jewelry and other products. We also carry a wide selection of greeting cards, many produced by local artists. Gift and card items are not available through the website, but please come in and browse when you are in the area.
