Author Talk with Rachel Pieh Jones

  • The Potter's House 1658 Columbia Road Northwest Washington United States (map)

Join The Potter's House for a free book talk with Rachel Pieh Jones about her book, Stronger Than Death, which celebrates the life of Annalena Tonelli. Tonelli left behind career, family, and homeland, moving to northern Kenya to help those afflicted by tuberculosis. By the time she was killed for her work, she had not only developed an effective cure for tuberculosis among nomadic peoples but also exposed a massacre, established homes and schools for the deaf, advocated against female genital mutilation, and secured treatment for ostracized AIDS patients.

Rachel Pieh Jones is a writer whose work has appeared in the New York Times, the Christian Science Monitor, Runner’s World, Christianity Today, Literary Mama and EthnoTraveler. She has been featured on podcasts including: Giving Up Normal, The Family Culture Podcast, Modern Love, and Struggle Well. Rachel is the director of student life at a school she and her husband run in Djibouti, a country in the Horn of Africa that borders Eritrea, Ethiopia, and Somalia.
