Ethan Philion is a Washington DC based bassist, composer, and bandleader. A 2014 graduate of Oberlin Conservatory, Ethan has already performed with renowned musicians such as Rufus Reid, Chris Thile, Howard Levy, Gary Bartz, Steve Turre, Leo Blanco, Sharon Clark, Klauss Mueller, and more. He has played across the United States in venues such as the Kennedy Center, Millenium Park, and Severance Hall. As a bandleader, Ethan books music at 8407 Kitchen, Potter's House, and more. In March of 2015 Ethan was selected to take part in Betty Carter’s Jazz Ahead Residency at the Kennedy Center. While there he worked closely with faculty artists Jason Moran, Eric Revis, Eric Harland, Cyrus Chestnut, Carmen Lundy, Andre Hayward, and JD Allen. In 2015 he was also selected aEpbasss a finalist for the International Society of Bassists Jazz Competition in Fort Collins, CO. In 2017 he was a finalist again at the ISB Jazz Competition in Ithaca, NY. Ethan studied Jazz Bass at Oberlin Conservatory from 2010—2014. While at Oberlin Ethan won at Outstanding Soloist Award from Downbeat in the 2014 Student Music Awards edition. His septet, A Little Big Band, also won an Outstanding Small Ensemble Award. Ethan studied with Peter Dominguez, Gerald Cannon, Scott Dixon, Jay Ashby, Jamey Haddad, Dan Wall, and Bobby Ferrazza while at Oberlin
