Join us for a private screening of Ben Between Africa with special guest Historian Amsale Alemu, Ph.d
Ben Between Africa is a personal and historical documentary that follows a filmmaker on a quest to find her late uncle's final letter. This search unexpectedly leads her to mid-century Ethiopia, where her grandparents worked as Mennonite missionaries in the final years of Haile Selassie's reign.
What starts as a family mystery slowly unfolds into a deeper look at the evangelical movement in Ethiopia during the lead-up to the 1974 revolution.
Along the way, the film explores the push and pull between Western influence and Ethiopian tradition, the impact of missionary work, and the personal costs of global movements. At its core, Ben Between Africa is about the search for connection, how politics and cultural movements shape all lives, and how the search for belonging can echo across continents and generations.
