What’s New

The Potter’s House has shaped and reshaped the clay of creativity in the lives of many individuals and communities. Can you help us keep our space open to stir the spiritual imagination of many more in the coming years?

What do we need in 2008?

Employees prepare lunch

Paul, Myrtle, and Mary
prepare fresh meals every day.

General Operating Fund – While we anticipate receiving additional contributions for use of space this year, we project that our expenses will exceed our revenue in 2008 by $40,000. We may have a marketplace for food and gifts, but they are not of a nature to sustain us. We continue to be primarily an outreach ministry .

Measuring equipment wattage

Meade keeps accurate records
of the power consumption
of our equipment.

Going Green Capital – Our emergency reserve account is about $18,000 short of its hoped-for $25,000. We also hope to raise $25,000 for our "green" capital improvements. We have measured the wattage of our kitchen appliances and have marked for replacement 2 freezers that burn 4 times the amount of electricity than the other appliances. We need to insulate our gas range in order to run the air conditioner less than 11 months of the year and we need to be ready to replace our 10+ year air conditioner with a SEER 21 rated A/C when the time comes. Other capital improvements include a recycled glass countertop for the restaurant side of our buffet. In the long run, we are looking into solar panels for our 2500 square feet of sunny flat roof.

Friends meeting at Sopa a las Dos

Join us for Sopa a las Dos.

Sopa A Las Dos – Each day we invite people from the street to sit down and be served in our restaurant. Many of these folks get kicked out of restaurants and it is our goal not just to feed them but to honor them with our respect and presence. Out of this activity, we have built some lasting friendships. These guys have gone on to complete drug treatment, get jobs and apartments, and reconcile with estranged relatives. It takes $28 per day, 248 days of the year to operate this activity. That totals $6944 per year. Please help.

Sounds of Hope – Sounds of Hope, our Friday night concert series is celebrating its 5th anniversary on December 21, 2007. Though we raise money for other organizations, we have not often had our own fundraiser. This year we want to raise $10,000 to keep the music and community coming.
